John Raynes

studied painting at St Albans School of Art and The Royal College of Art. Since then, he has combined painting with teaching in Art schools and running a very successful illustration practice. In 1996 was comissioned to supply the drawings for the best selling 'The New Joy of Sex'.

Since the 90's he has made a return to painting full-time, with special interest in portraiture, the human figure and landscape. John and his wife Sheila have owned a house in the Languedoc region of France which they visit regularly, John roaming the countryside and painting in the wonderful light of the Midi.

He has exhibited in many shows in Britain, France, Dubai and Portugal. He is represented by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters at the Mall Galleries, London. John has written many art instruction books, including ‘Drawing People’ which was published in 2000, ‘The Complete Drawing Course’ in 2003, 'The Complete Watercolour Course' published in 2004 and 'The Complete Guide to Perspective' in 2005 .
